10 Beautiful ideas for Outdoor living room design

The living room merges with the garden or terrace in search of spaciousness, fresh air and bright summer light. Draw the curtain, open the window.

A window is a magnificent opportunity to enjoy that sense of perspective that extends the house into open spaces. With a suitable enclosure, the living room merges with the garden or terrace in search of spaciousness, fresh air and the bright light of summer.

1 Play with contrasts in the living room

In general, the enclosure is usually made in the same finish as the wall so that it is better integrated. However, in this case there were so many focal points – the sloping ceiling, the fireplace, even the coffee table made from a pallet – that a cladding with dark profiles was chosen. Only in this way was it able to occupy an important place as an architectural element and, incidentally, mark a horizontal cut that compensates for the irregularity of the room and balances the space. Chaise-longue, from El Globo Muebles. The ceiling lamp is from Gunni&Trentino.

2 Halls with pillars and setbacks

There is not always a wall free of obstacles. Construction pillars and downspouts can be saved with two symmetrical enclosures, with profiles in the same finish and identical blinds that enhance the sense of continuity. Dining table, chairs and rug, from Chalet Novaforma. Sofa, from Galerías del Tresillo.

3 Doors to the outside

If the replacement of the doors is not possible, one solution is to alternate a new exterior leaf -with thermal break and double glazing to guarantee its tightness- with an interior wooden shutter.

4 Dress the living room with blinds

Roller blinds are an excellent option to dress a wall-to-wall enclosure. When they are raised, they remain fixed in a minimum space next to the ceiling, so that the passage from the living room to the terrace is completely clear. Outdoor furniture, by Cado. The coffee table is a design by Inma Barata. Chairs, from Pilma.

5 Panel doors

The charm of this door lies in the white lacquered wooden panels. Its design, in the purest British style, is a perfect decorative resource to announce the passage from the living room to the garden. Lamp, from Ikea. Falls, from KA International.

6 Install a safe sliding door in the living room

Large glass enclosures require a resistant opening system. The guides must support the considerable weight of the doors, while the rails must facilitate the sliding of the leaves without risk of wear. 7 With Side Falls

The combination of blinds and curtains allows a common problem to be solved: the one that arises when, on both sides of the enclosure, part of the wall is left bare. The falls of the curtains on the sides of the glass doors unify the entire front, which with this resource, seems wider than it really is. Sofa, armchairs and coffee tables, by Becara.

8 Doors recovered

The small urban balconies also contribute to enhancing that long-awaited projection towards the exterior. Some buildings have magnificent old wooden doors, with brass fittings and a traditional closing system that enriches the interior with a stately air. It is worth recovering them and converting them into the ideal background of the living room for, for example, a reading corner, with a unique armchair; like this one, from Casa & Jardín.

9 A living room with two environments

An enclosure is not just a step to the terrace. Its main mission is to provide natural light to the interior. In this room, the L-shaped plan made it possible to create one for each room: living room and dining room. Between the two, a window was made that provides extra lighting to the space. Roche Bobois sofa. Poufs, by Maison Decor. Tables, by Teak Kayú. Blinds, from the firm Cortinova.

10 Glass walls to integrate the garden into the decoration of the living room

A well-kept garden around the house is an added value if it is visually integrated as part of the decoration. However, it is not advisable to make floor-to-ceiling enclosures throughout the entire room. The presence of walls, even halfway below the windows, is necessary to place radiators and attach furniture with a cozy layout.
